Comments:

I am writing on behalf of the Horsham Society to object strongly to this application.  Worthing Road is an important entry route to the town the design of which marks the transition from countryside to an urban street scene.  As the Horsham Town Design Statement SPD (page 25) says “Of particular importance are the key entrance roads that form the gateways to the town. Worthing Road, Guildford Road, Warnham Road and Brighton Road still retain a special character and importance. Often a mixture of architectural styles, they nevertheless create a sense of moving gently from country to town.” Worthing Road is characterised by relatively large and widely spaced detached properties set back from the road. The proposed development would be an inappropriate infill which would give an uncharacteristically cramped appearance to the street scene at the very start of this important transition. Furthermore, any additional traffic movements at this location would introduce an unacceptable danger to road users due to the very poor visibility of traffic travelling northwards from the railway bridge. This application is wholly inappropriate and should be refused. John Steele Secretary, Planning Sub Committee
