Planning: letters of

6 September 2008
Head of Development
for the attention of Hilary Conlon
Horsham District Council
Park House, North Street
Horsham RH12 1RL
Dear Ms Conlon
DC/08/0579 Norfolk Court, Birches Road, Horsham
Thank you for your letter of 28 August. I write on
behalf of the Horsham Society to object to the amended
proposal. The Society notes that the small change to
the design of the 3-storey Block B fails to meet its
original objection.
The existing blocks are of considerable size but at
least the separating open spaces allow clear views
between them and the proposed closing of these spaces
would create a single building of excessive bulk and
unrelieved length. We can reasonably assume that if
the design now proposed had been proposed as a new
development it would rightly have been rejected out of
hand.
The Society further notes that in this case the
development provides social housing and it is
particularly concerned that this should not be treated
as second-class accommodation. The same consideration
should be given, and the same design criteria applied,
to all developments and approval to this proposal
would give completely the wrong message.
Yours sincerely
Oliver Palmer
Vice-President, The Horsham Society |
